Do I need a WISP if I work alone?
Yes. A one-person office still needs a written information security plan. The requirement applies to paid preparers, and it does not set a minimum staff count.
Who is the Qualified Individual when it's just me?
The plan names a Qualified Individual who runs the program. In the wizard, that person can be you, an employee, an affiliate, or an outside provider.
In a one-person office, that can be you.
What goes in a one-person plan?
Write down who can open client files, which systems hold them, which vendors touch them, and how you will review the plan. Includes a section for each element of 16 CFR 314.4.
You're responsible for implementing your plan.
What if I hire seasonal help?
The wizard asks who has access, including seasonal staff and contractors. It records that a person is seasonal, how access is reviewed, and how access is removed when someone leaves.
If more people handle client files, or you add another office, Solo is no longer the matching plan. Firm $299 covers one physical office with up to 10 staff.
Which plan should I buy?
Choose Solo $149 when you are the only person who handles client files. Firm $299 is the plan when one physical office has staff, up to 10 people.
One-time payment. Includes 12 months of updates. No subscription, no automatic charges. Your answers stay on your device. We never receive or store them.
